Content Flag

A content flag is our opportunity to give you a heads-up about some of the things you will encounter in the production.

If you prefer to be surprised by the content, feel free to skip this section. Engage with the play in whatever way you wish!

Clown is a diverse artform with many expressions. The performers in this play wear the iconic red nose and limited makeup. They will perform unmasked.

Clowning does not have a fourth wall. Audience interaction and participation are key parts of the artform.

Clowns embrace improvisation and spontaneity, meaning no two shows will be identical and, in a sense, anything could happen; this is a necessary element that contributes to the particular fun of this style.

The play includes some violence and depictions of class-based oppression and religious ceremonies. The clowns will eat, throw, and waste food – including near the audience. These are not presented realistically–it’s clown after all–but these human experiences and more are present in the performances.

This is, of course, an incomplete description of the show. We hope, however, that this offers you a sense of what the show contains and how it presents it. With this in mind, please engage however is best for you.

About the Producing Company

Oblong and Oboe is a red-nose clown duo dedicated to creating meaningful, socially engaged, and zany performances. We believe that clowning can speak simultaneously to society and the individual heart - and be a whole lot of fun in the process! The red nose isn’t just for kids - it’s for all of us.

Our (non-clown) world is experiencing upheaval on a massive scale. The work of Oblong and Oboe speaks to that – and to the resilience and humour needed to survive, rebuild, and (most importantly) reimagine. Oblong and Oboe have performed at events in Saskatchewan and Ontario as well as at the Play the Fool Festival in Edmonton.
