Leaves of Glass
by Philip Ridley

Theatre Ecstasis takes a dark and dramatic turn with Leaves Of Glass By Philip Ridley

"At times funny and moving,...intelligent, emotionally unsettling and intellectually stimulating."

On the surface, Steven has everything. A beautiful wife, a successful business, a brand new home. But beneath the glittering veneer lies a monstrous secret . . . 'You believe him cos he wraps all the painful stuff in feathers and flowers. Makes it all safe and cosy. You can't feel the broken glass inside.' Leaves of Glass is a rich, complex play about two brothers and the hold that the past and memory has on them. Haunted by the death of his father and a car accident involving a young child, Steve finds his life unraveling and his pregnant wife unable to comprehend his pain and sense of loss. Known for his dark disturbing dramas, Ridley's latest play is a deeply human drama that shifts between elegy for the past and a chilling exploration of the power of loss and grief.

Pocket Plays
Death. Friends. Brownies. Some things in life are inevitable.

Sometimes death brings people together. Sometimes it makes them do something strange. Sometimes it shows who your loved ones really are. Whatever happens, it helps to have friends and brownies to pull you through.

The talented ladies of 400 lbs of Sunshine have put their quirky little minds together to co-create three original short plays. These plays are pocket-sized, if you will, but have little or nothing to do with pockets.

          Ledge
Death seems like the easiest way out when the desperation of a life off-track becomes too much. Two sisters must resolve their differences, take a deep breath and remember to look up.

          Graceful Exit
When a book club choice hits too close to home, there may not be enough red wine and chocolate on hand to heal the friendship that hangs in the balance.

          Coffee
Struggling to display emotion at a wake, two strangers learn the courage it takes to do the right thing and honour the dead.

Pocket Plays explore how we cope with loss and find our voice through grief. Laugh, cry, deny, break down, lash out, run or hide. But have a brownie. It will help.

Written and performed by Catherine Harrison, Amber McGrath Huck and Clare Middleton

A Christmas Carol
by Charles Dickens

A Christmas tradition returns to Saskatoon for the 15th year.

Written in 1843, A CHRISTMAS CAROL has become the Christmas story and one of the most loved works in the English language. Few people know that Dickens also wrote and performed a solo theatrical version of his famous story for many years. Now you can experience the laughter, tears and joy of the original with John D. Huston as Charles Dickens at The Refinery December 1st.

Huston's lovingly authentic reproduction of Dickens' performances, developed from Dickens' own script and working notes, hauntingly evokes the magic of a Christmas Past. His astonishing tour de force presentation has toured the country every year since 1991 playing to full houses and ecstatic reviews. This remarkable performance has been described as "mesmerizing", "powerful" and "Christmas magic" by reviewers and audiences from B.C. to Montreal.

"Almost too perfect" Globe and Mail

"You'll be haunted if you miss it." Sasktoon Star-Phoenix

"Powerful one man theatre in the hands of a master storyteller." National Post

"Huston is mesmerising." Winnipeg Free Press

"Absolutely fabulous" CBC Ottawa
